Disneys Piston Peak
Disney’s Piston Peak National Park, the Cars-themed expansion replacing the former Rivers of America/Tom Sawyer Island area, will have two attractions. Disney originally announced the land at D23 in 2024, but this year’s D23 gave fans a much better look at what is actually being built. DDisney Experiences+1
🏁 1. The big attraction: the Piston Peak rally
This is the headline ride: an off-road rally race through the mountains of Piston Peak.
Guests will race across rugged terrain, climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers and splashing through mudholes. New D23 model details show the vehicles navigating wooded trails, bridges, waterfalls and mountainous terrain rather than simply following a conventional coaster track.
Disney has specifically described it as a ride designed to give guests a convincing off-road driving sensation, which could make it quite different from a traditional track-based attraction.
🚙 2. The family attraction
The second attraction is aimed at younger/smaller racers and families.
Disney had previously only said that it would be a family-friendly attraction, but the D23 model has given fans a clearer indication of its scale and ride vehicles. Reports are comparing the concept to the type of spinning/flat ride found in the Cars universe, rather than another major thrill ride.
🏔️ And Piston Peak itself is pretty impressive
The land isn’t being designed as a copy of Radiator Springs. Disney is creating a Rocky Mountain/national-park setting, with:
- Snow-capped peaks
- Waterfalls and rivers
- Geysers
- Dense forests
- Bridges and hiking trails
- A visitor lodge
- Ranger HQ
- Cars characters integrated into the wilderness
Disney calls it Piston Peak National Park, and Imagineers are using a style inspired by the National Park Service’s “Parkitecture.”
So, essentially, Magic Kingdom is getting a Cars wilderness adventure rather than another Radiator Springs.
And considering Disney has already begun construction, this isn’t just a concept anymore—the dirt is moving.
The really interesting part: the two Piston Peak rides plus the two attractions planned for Villains Land mean Magic Kingdom is potentially adding four major attractions as part of this enormous expansion.
